3D modeling with Fusion 360 @ Sustainable Capitol Hill Tool Library
Oct 29 @ 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm
3D modeling with Fusion 360 @ Sustainable Capitol Hill Tool Library

Ever wanted a really specific tool or gizmo, but can’t find it? In this class, we’ll explore how to do basic 3D modeling using the free program Fusion 360.

With the knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD), and access to the 3D printer and other tools in the tool library, you can design and bring to reality almost anything you can think of! CAD is an essential skill for 3D printing, but you can also use it to design other projects, like woodworking.

To get the most out of this class, we recommend bringing your own laptop and downloading the free “personal use” edition of Fusion 360 beforehand (installation guide), if possible. Also bring your ideas for relatively simple objects you’d like to create!

We ask that you please RSVP for this free event on Meetup here – all are welcome to attend and learn. No prior experience in 3D modeling or printing needed, though if you’ve used a tool like SketchUp before, you’ll likely find that your skills translate well.

Details:

Leopard Cat Media is proud to present the premiere of An Empire in Peril. The independent film premiere will take place on Tuesday, November 28 at 3:00 p.m. at the Seattle Central Library – Microsoft Auditorium. A portion of the proceeds from the premiere will benefit the Nisei Veterans’ Committee.

The film is based on the self-published Sci-Fi book of the same name. In a future where neither World War occurred, the 29th Century is full of age-old empires racing to colonize the galaxy’s billions of uninhabited planets in the interest of their mega-corporation sponsors. When a militant alien civilization threatens humanity with enslavement, it is up to Atlas Saheed, a marine from an Eastern European superpower, and his team to find and eliminate their enigmatic artificial intelligence leader, ATMOS. He must convince rival nations to put aside their differences, adventure across formerly peaceful worlds turned into fiery battlefields and uncover the true motives behind the alien leader’s war before his country surrenders, all while hindered by government corruption, personal conflicts and even treason. As he fights against the extraterrestrial menace, he discovers and tests the values that define humanity itself.

The film is a unique military Sci-Fi movie, made under the artistic direction of the author, Nicholas Chang. The cast and crew included multiple veterans, including a Vietnam Veteran and ROTC candidates.

“The film is unique in both its high artistic ambitions and the obstacles it has overcome. With a production budget of under $10,000, we managed to make a feature-length movie with high octane sci-fi action, a unique art style, and an unrestrained portrayal of galaxy-spanning empires,” said Nicholas Chang, author/co-producer of An Empire in Peril. “What makes it worth seeing is that it’s a fresh idea in a world of remakes and sequels. It’s a far-future alternate history universe, where a democratized version of the Russian Empire attempts to fend off an AI-led alien race. My goal was to create a fantasy universe from a perspective so outlandish that people are drawn to it out of sheer curiosity, and so far that’s been successful.”

Premiere Date: Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 3 p.m.

Location: Seattle Central Library, Microsoft Auditorium
Event: An Empire in Peril Film Premiere benefiting the Nisei Veterans’ Committee
Cost: Admission is free. Donations will be accepted. There will also be merchandise for sale as well as a silent auction. A portion of proceeds from these sales will also benefit the Nisei Veterans’ Committee.

About the Author: Nick Chang is a logistics specialist, digital artist, community servant. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, he is a graduate of ‘Iolani School and Seattle University. He has written speeches, reports, and articles for organizations such as the Hawaii Chapter of Americans for Democratic Action, Hawaiian Humane Society, and Ceccpoint News.
